What’s the best part of summer? Well, aside from freedom and the ability to spend all day at FLIPnOUT, it’s definitely the food! And with Memorial Day gone, it’s officially barbecue season. Grilling is the perfect way to spend any summer evening (especially after a day spent at FLIPnOUT), because it’s easy, delicious and – best of all – doesn’t require heating up your kitchen (even more). Get the most out of your barbecue or grill this year with these quick tips.
Never use real dishes
Seriously. After a great time spent with family and friends, who wants to head inside to wash dishes? Instead of breaking out the nice dinnerware, just grab a jumbo pack of paper plates and plastic cutlery and your local superstore and keep the paper-ware in use all summer long.
Try out different themes
Sick of hamburgers and hot dogs? A barbecue can be a more unique affair than you think. Try out a new theme each time you heat up the grill. Ready to mix it up? Try a Mexican theme with delicious carne asada, chips and guacamole. Or go for middle-eastern flair with chicken kabobs, cucumber dip and Greek salad.
Don’t forget the entertainment
Food is great, but food and entertainment are the perfect combination for a summer’s day. Set up outdoor games (or even board games!) or set up a projector in the backyard for an evening movie.
Choose cheaper meats
All that barbecue meat can get pricey, so it’s a good idea to know what cuts will give you the biggest bang for your buck. While hamburgers are usually cheap to make (and delicious to eat), chicken thighs are a winner too; brats and sausages are also a good, economical choice.
Dress up hamburgers
Everyone loves a hamburger, but make yours extra special and leave your guests remembering your barbecue. Start out with ground hamburger, but add in spices, fresh herbs and even some shredded cheese and crumbled bacon for the ultimate burger patty.
