When it comes to New Year’s resolutions, you’ve probably made them all: lose weight, start exercising, quit smoking, drive slower, get more sleep, learn to knit…the list goes on. But this year, why not resolve to do something that means a little bit more? If you’re like most of us, there’s nothing more important in your life than your family. So try spending a little more quality time with them in 2014. After all, family fun isn’t just about enjoying yourself, it’s about building memories.
Four Tips for More Family Fun in 2014
- Make meals more fun: Family fun doesn’t require you to be out doing something expensive or time-consuming. Make your family dinners matter more by soliciting participation from the entire family.
For instance, you may want to assign one member to make part (or all) of the dinner each night of the week. Assign another family member to determine the dinner conversation or introduce a word game around the table.
- Get some exercise: While your family may not particularly enjoy hitting the gym, getting some good exercise in together can make fitness fun and help you connect as a family. A weekend bike ride is a great way to exercise and get your family fun time in too. Or take a trip to a FLIPnOUT trampoline center for some wacky – but always fun – exercise.
- Grow a garden: There’s nothing like a family project to bring people together. This year, resolve to plant a family garden (or spray your water loving pup).
Let each member choose a fruit or vegetable or herb to grow and then spend some family fun time tending and harvesting.
- Designate a game night: What’s more fun than board games? Make one night a week your designated family fun night. If you grow tired of board games, try an activity – roller skating, bowling, flag football or a visit to FLIPnOUT!
